Expense Ratio
Mutual funds and ETFs charge their shareholders an expense ratio to pay for operations and fund management.
Higher expense ratios eat into nominal returns for investors.
The selling and buying of securities in one’s portfolio is not included when calculating the expense ratio, and so active funds tend to carry higher expenses than passive ones.
An example if a fund has an expense ratio of .5 it costs the consumer 5 dollars per thousand per year in that fund. If the fund costs .05 the fund costs the consumer 50 cents per thousand per year.
These differences may seem subtle but over time it has a huge effect on a clients total net assets.
DWM aims to use only appropriate low cost ETF or index funds to assure the total expense ratio does not eat into a clients returns. If you'd like an analysis of your current fees please upload a a statements and we will review with you.
